Fortress Pendem Cilacap (Netherlands: Kustbatterij op de
Landtong te Cilacap), built 1861, is the Dutch forts on the coast of Turtle Bay
Cilacap district, Central Java. This building is the former headquarters of the
Dutch East Indies Army defense that is built on an area of 6.5 hectares in
stages over the past 18 years, from 1861 until 1879. The fort was closed pendem
coastal land and not neglected. The fort was later discovered and excavated the
government began Cilacap 1986.

Pendem fort was once a headquarters of the Dutch defense
forces in Cilacap, Central Java, designed by Dutch architect. The fort is
enabled to withstand the attacks coming from the sea along with Fort Karang
Bolong, Klingker Citadel, and Citadel Cepiring. Pendem fort functioned until
1942. When the war against Japanese forces, the fort was overrun by the
Japanese. 1941, Japan was due to leave the fortress city of Hiroshima and
Nagasaki were bombed by the allies; so, the fort was taken over by military
camouflage Bull Unitary Central Java. In the mastery of the TNI, the fort was
used to practice the freedom fighters of war and marine landings.

Building the fort pendem consists of several rooms that are
still strong today. However, since the beginning is found, the room in the
castle is not fully known. Common room in the castle which is known consisting
of barracks, fortress, fortress lookouts, meeting rooms, medical clinics,
arsenal, powder magazine, prison space, kitchen, living officers, and the
bullet chamber. Others have stated that in the tunnel leading to the fort there
are other forts and a number of caves on the island of Nusakambangan. However,
until now it has not been fully proven.
