Sikidang Crater is one of the favorite tourist spot in Banjarnegara district. Sikidang volcanic crater is a crater with a lava pit that can be seen from the crater rim. Location is slightly warmer temperature, and the sulfur smell is quite overpowering. Water vapor and lava gray even popping up every so often moved around and jump like a deer. That's why it is called a crater crater Sikidang. Until now this post on the share (July 26, 2011) Crater Sikidang active status is still steaming hot, causing water and churned like a cauldron boiling in the cooking water. Around the location of the crater there is often a sort of pool of boiling water and often used to cook eggs for penggunjung.
Crater Sikidang give other shades on tourism Dieng. Fresh green landscape suddenly vanished into the compound of this crater. As far as the eye could see, just a barren stretch of land surrounded by hills with a pool of continuous steaming far in the other end. A few meters from the entrance there is a warning sign that you be careful in moving, as well as the ban on lighting fires and throwing cigarette butts.
Walking in this crater is not random. we had to jump around and look for dry land to gain a foothold. Craters craters are everywhere. In some places the ground looks wet with boiling water turbulent. These lands are dangerous if climbed because it is very fragile and prone to landslides. Sulfur smell was overpowering. The farther to walk, the smell was getting stronger and nose piercing. A middle-aged woman standing in the middle of barren desert was wearing a hat and cover your nose. A sack lay with chunks of sulfur laid out neatly on top. The stones are sold to the visitors as souvenirs Sikidang Crater. This crater is still a haven for the residents who depend on mining activities brimstone. Despite the strong odor, but the steam containing sulfur is believed efficacious for smooth skin and eliminate acne.
Almost at the end of this complex, Crater Sikidang reigns. A large pool of water mixed with gray mud that kept bubbling. End of the pool is not visible because pekatnya billowing white smoke. It is said that water and mud has a temperature of 98 degrees centigrade, and maybe even more. Bamboo fence was built around the crater for the safety of the visitors. Nevertheless there are still a violation of this safety limit. There used to be a visitor who dare to take pictures of the crater lip stuck his leg and fell. When removed, the skin of his leg bones had melted and lived alone. Tourism is indeed a unique and interesting, but you must always be vigilant given the crater is still quite active.
Crater Sikidang a magma chamber in the bowels of the earth beneath. Magma chamber generates heat and energy with a very strong pressure. When this pressure reaches its peak, there will be eruptions and formed a new crater. Sikidang name is taken from the word "deer" means deer. The uniqueness of this crater is the main crater is always on the move, as if jumping to find a new place. Big hole right in front of the complex is the former main crater before he was "bored" and jumped to move to another place. If lucky you can also see some sulfur miners who are busy looking for chunks of sulfur to be sold to the city. If you are the adventurous who want to experience standing on a pot of magma of the earth, Sikidang Crater is the place. But remember, be careful in moving and do not start a fire. Good luck ...
